When I first heard that we were doing a virtual reality project, I was super excited because it sounded really cool but also very nervous because it sounded like it would be very hard. After getting some instruction in class, I felt more comfortable with this assignment and I was ready to get it started.
My partner and I first took on this task by brainstorming some ideas of what we could do. We first thought about doing a scavenger hunt kind of game so we began browsing packages in the asset store to use. While looking for packages, we came across a really cool package called 3D game kit. For some reason, it was taking a really long time to load on the computers in the ihub so my partner and I decided to download it on both of our computers and mess around with it once we got home. It was crazy to see how many folders this package had and its capabilities. It wasn’t too bad to work with and there were several helpful videos on youtube to assist as well.
After playing around with the package and adding new features, we were ready to convert the game on unity so that it was able to be played in virtual reality. We ran into several problems once we hook it up to the VR computer. First our screen was stuck on the loading page and once we got it to work, something was wrong with our view. On the monitor, the game came up fine but in our headset, we could only see the sky. This was very frustrating and we tried to fix it but then we just decided to come up with a plan B which turned out very well and it didn’t give us much problems at all! In canvas, you will be able to see a clip of my partner taking part in this virtual reality experience.
Overall, I had a fun time doing this project and it was really cool to not only build something for VR , but also be able to see what a VR experience feels like for the first time. My partner and I really enjoyed this and this is the link to his blog post: https://s0m37h1n6.home.blog/2019/08/02/virtual-reality-project/
